The second boss in Link’s Awakening is a little more unorthodox, so here are some tips on how to beat the Genie.

Most bosses in Link’s Awakening can be beaten using Link’s trusty sword, but the Genie requires a little something extra. Newcomers to the series and those who have never played the original Link’s Awakening may need some pointers, so Shacknews is here to provide them and help you put the Genie back in his bottle.

How to beat Genie – Link’s Awakening

The Genie is not here to grant your wishes, unless your wish is for an easy boss battle. But things don’t get easy until you figure out the trick to this fight. You cannot damage the Genie directly, at least not at first.

The fight starts with the Genie juggling fireballs and tossing them your way. Stand on the opposite wall from wherever he’s stationed and run back and forth to avoid the fireballs, using Roc’s Feather to leap over them, if necessary. After the Genie runs out of fireballs, he’ll retreat to his bottle.

This is where things get tricky if you’ve never seen the Genie before. The bottle will chase after you, but don’t just run from it. As soon as it gets close, strike at it with your sword. The bottle will fall over, at which point you can pick it up with the Power Bracelet that you picked up earlier in the Bottle Grotto dungeon. Pick up the bottle and toss it against the wall.

Repeat this process a few more times. The Genie’s bottle will eventually shatter completely.

Now the Genie is vulnerable, but he’s also angry. He’ll circle around you a couple of times before winding up one giant fireball to chuck in your direction. Avoid the fireball and attack the Genie with your sword. Repeat this process a couple of times and you’ll grant the Genie his wish of a swift demise.
