Amazfit Bip 2 revealed thanks to new leaks

The Amazfit Bip was one of the more fascinating smartwatches of 2018, thanks to combining an Apple Watch-like design, intense simplicity and over 30 days of battery life.

Naturally, Xiaomi spinoff Huami is prepping a sequel for release this year. Now, thanks to a pre-sale listing on Geekbuying, we have a full specs rundown. You’re still getting 30 days of standby battery life, GPS, and a heart rate sensor, but you’re also getting 5ATM water resistance instead of the more splash-proof IP68 rating.

Interestingly, Geekbuying lists the Bip 2 as sporting a 1.2-inch display with a 127 x 127 resolution. The Bip 1 came with a 1.28-inch display with a resolution of 176 x 176. It’s unclear why Huami could be downgrading the display while upgrading some of the other internals.

Additionally, it lists the Bip 2 having a 190 mAh battery, which is the same as the Bip 1. A January report from Xiaomi Today said the Bip 2 would carry a 200 mAh battery. It’s possible that these two things are mistakes from Geekbuying, or that Xiaomi was planning to add in a bigger battery but cut it for some reason. However, again, it’s not clear why Xiaomi would downgrade the resolution.

The Bip 2 likely won’t make too many physical changes to the original, as Xiaomi Today even got its hands on a leaked photo of the 2 in a new bright green color. It’s difficult to tell from the leaked photo whether the display is 0.08 inches smaller.

Price is a bit of a question mark. It’s likely that Huami will simply charge the same $99.99 price, but Geekbuying lists the Bip 2 at $115.99 (no UK price just yet). We likely won’t have to wait long to get all the details on the Bip 2 though, as it’s already made its way through the FCC.
